Tuesday

DAPHNE LIFE 9/25/17

This was the first time in a long time we had a fairly normal week. We spent all week in Daphne and did not have to travel anywhere. It was nice to stay here and work only in our area.

Monday was real quiet not much excitement for us.

Tuesday was mega busy. We had interviews with President Smith. I love that man so much. He is so inspired and full of love. He does an excellent job at leading us. The rest of tuesday was full of meetings. District leader council, exchange planning, and monthly meetings with the Stake President. President Jurgens is a riot. I love this man too! He is a great leader here in Alabama. He has the vision the church leaders have to carry out the plans of Zion. I learned a ton in our meeting with him. Leadership, ecclesiastical order, jokes, and doctrine.

Wednesday, I went on an exchange with Elder Christensen. We had a good time talking to a ton of people as we went about our work here in the Daphne area. Wednesday night we had an outstanding lesson with one of our investigators. She came with some great questions we were able to answer for her. She is very wise and is able to make all the connections we laid out for her. She accepted an invitation to be baptized! She has been a miracle find for us.

Thursday, we were at the church most of the day. We ran the Family History Center for a few hours. I love doing family history! There are so many great stories to learn and things to discover. It really is an adventure trying to do the research to find our past ancestors, digging through documents and records. Everyone should take a little time and browse around on familysearch.org

Friday was very busy, we had a bunch of appointments to fill. In the evening we had another outstanding lesson with another one of our great investigators. We watched a general conference talk that we felt was perfect for him. It was a very touching lesson.

Saturday was a fun one! We went downtown to the Daphne Arts and Crafts Festival. There were a ton of people there. The art was great. So many different styles and techniques. We had a ball. So many people to talk too! I really wish I had taken pictures. I love the Southern art, I love the cotton, so do the locals. We spent a couple hours there, but eventually the sun got to us and we went about other activities. In the evening we watch a bit of the Women's session of general conference.

I am so excited for this weekend to hear from our prophets and apostles, giving us the things God wants us to hear now. I know that we have living prophets on the earth today just as Moses or Jeremiah of old. They are called and inspired of God to give us His word for this day and age. Please take the time and watch a session!

This was just the week I needed. It was a slower paced week and allowed for a little more rest. Next week we are heading to Mississippi for a few days and have a bunch of things to get done. I have seen miracles this week and how the Gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives and brings people happiness. It is the answer to any problem and all of our questions

We also walked down to the pier and saw this snake. I guess it turns out that it was a cotton mouth. Didnt know that at the time, I guess it wasnt the best idea to poke it with a stick... oops😂

I love yall! Have a great week! Also shout out to my boy chad! BEST AP!

"Another Day In Paradise" 9/18/17

This week was amazing!
On Monday, to pass the time productively, Elder Southway, the sister missionaries in our ward and myself took up painting. It really was fun.

Tuesday, we went down to Foley for district meeting. That is such a great district! We have awesome missionaries here. That afternoon we went on an exchange with the english elders of Foley. Elder Stilson and I had a great time working the city of Foley over.

Wednesday, we were up early to head to Navarre, Florida to exchange vehicles. We gave up our Chevy Malibu for a new Toyota Tacoma. A very nice upgrade!
We returned to Foley to do another exchange with the Foley Spanish Elders. This was super cool. I went with Elder Meidlinger, we had some pretty funny contacts. We got bashed by a Hispanic Pentecostal  I was standing there not having any idea what was going on but I could tell we were getting bashed haha. Elder Meidlinger was so confused on what just happened haha it was so funny.

Thursday, I was back with Elder Southway. We had a busy day taking care of a ton of chores and making plans. In the evening we had yet another exchange with the elders from Theodore, Alabama. It was a fun night.

Friday, I went to work with Elder Farnsworth. We had some cool tracting experiences. We prayed to know where to go that day and felt like we should go to the park. Later when we went we found this lady and shared the Book of Mormon with her. She was super excited when I told her how the Bible Prophesied of the Book or mormon in Ezekiel. She was really interested. Later that night she texted us and told us that she was praying earlier that morning for direction. she already went to that park once that morning but she felt drawn to go to it again. She said she knows we were sent by God. She came to church yesterday and loved it! She is so excited to learn more! She was a miracle find!

Saturday, we started with service loading a moving truck. The rest of the day was very productive and we got a ton of little things done. In the evening we had a great lesson with our investigator, Hunter. He is so prepared and anxiously engaged! In the evening we went to the church and had a huge volleyball game with a big group of people.

Sunday was phenomenal.  She came to church on Sunday and loved it! She is so awesome. She has so much potential in front of her. We are looking forward to working with her. This Sunday was the primary program in the Daphne Ward. The children did such a fantastic job. The taught us how simple the gospel is. It is so simple a child can perfectly understand it and share about it. There was so much love in the room. The spirit was so strong. The rest of church was great. Very uplifting and very productive.

This week we were all over the place with chores and exchanges. This week is going to be quieter for us. We are doing super well. Successes are falling into our laps. This is the blessing for diligence, steadfastness, and perseverance.

Oh and by the way I got the tacoma! I guess being the baby of the family still works out here ;) hahaha jk

IRMA 9/11/17

I am alive and well. Southern Alabama missed the full power and fury of Hurricane Irma. Portions of my mission, namely Tallahassee are right now taking the storm head on. Many of our missionaries have been evacuated to safer areas within the mission to wait out the storm. Our great Mission President has kept us up to date on all the changes in Irma and has done a great job at keeping us informed and safe. We in the Florida Tallahassee Mission have been very lucky and so has much of Florida. This could have been a much worse disaster. We are heartbroken when we see the footage that is coming from the Atlantic islands, Bahamas, Cuba, the Virgin Islands, Antigua, and the others. They were not prepared and the storm too strong. The storm could have been much worse for Florida. There is still much danger to those in Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Tallahassee. Governor Scott of Florida has done a great job with his preparations for his state. He has been pleading with people to flee. Evacuate and come back when it is safe. So many people made the wise choice to leave. Here in Alabama we have seen bumper to bumper Florida licence plates of people heading to safety. There is no gas or supplies left in Tallahassee, prices here shot up 60 cents over the week.

Through the storm we have seen the best come out in people as they made their preparations and are helping one another survive. I am so thankful to have the gospel in my life and during times like this I am very thankful for the church in my life. The church stepped up and was one of the first to show up and help in Houston, Texas. The church took change in leading the preparations to brace for impact of Hurricane Irma. Local leaders gave direction of what to do, what to gather, where to be, and where to evacuated to, who to see, and what to do when you get there. All the plans were made to ensure the well being of so many people and to make it as comfortable as possible. So many people left Florida and had no idea what to take, where to go, or what to do. We have been in close contact with local priesthood leaders to answer all of those question. Now we wait out the storm then we await orders as the clean up begins.

The week for us has been super busy and a tad stressful. There was a large list of things we had to get done here in Daphne and the stress and worry about the storm only added to the already heavy workload.

Tuesday, the amount of alarm in the area heightened. The storm was not going to go up the east coast and was heading west. It looked as if it would direct towards Florida or even enter into the Gulf of Mexico. People along the Gulf Coast began to worry. Our mission president, wisely advised to take the time early on to go and get supplies, particularly water and fuel. We went to Sam's Club as they wheeled out the last pallets of water in stock. Buy a few cases. Reports came to us from other missionaries in our area that all the stores were sold out of water for miles in all directions. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey all the supplies in the south were shipped west to aid in Harvey relief efforts. We have a connection with the regional manager of Publix supermarkets. The ten stores in this area sold $1million of supplies on tuesday alone, let alone the other 1,200 stores back in Florida. We were very luck to get the order to buy supplies when we did as water and gas became very difficult to find.
Also on Tuesday, we did a ton of service. We helped a family move out their house to a place luckily as it were more inland. They were very grateful for our help. Immediately from that move we went on to do yard work for a family for the remainder of the day. Lots and lots of lifting and labor on Tuesday.

Wednesday was again very busy. I drove across the bay into Mobile to give a baptismal interview to a man that was prepared to be baptized. He told me about his life and his struggle leading up to this time. He has overcome so many hardships and adversity. For years he lived homeless in Mobile, but with faith and trust in God he found work and got an apartment, he cleaned up his life. Now he has to return the favor back to God. He sought for God in his life. He church shopped for years with no luck. Nowhere felt like home. That was until he met the missionaries and he attend a Latter-Day Saint service. He told me he knew this was home the moment he walked in the doors. He story warmed my heart.
The rest of the day we were on the run, we had a series of appointments and chores to get done. We have such great people here in Daphne and I am so lucky to get to work with them. We had a fun time as we even taught a lesson to the young men in our ward. They are a fun and great group. In the evening we loaded up our car and headed east to Navarre, Florida. We had a meeting in the morning and went that far to save time.

Thursday morning we left Navarre and went to Crestview, Florida for Mission Leadership Council meeting. I look forward to this meeting each month. The members are among the best missionaries in our mission, outstanding individuals. We covered a range of topics about leadership and how to be as effective as we can with our time. We focused on how leaders are to serve those they called to watch over and see that their needs are met. We talked about how important proper goal setting was and making the plans to obtain our goals. We can set goals as high as we can imagine and if we plan effectively and make the necessary compartmentalized goals we can reach our ultimate goals. The meeting was very edifying and uplifting. That night we made our way back to Alabama. We had a few special chores to take of along the way. One of which was delivering a car to the sister missionaries in Pensacola, Florida. To make it was as efficiently as possible, Elder Southway and I drove separately. It was a 30 minute drive, this was the first time I have been alone in 10 months! It felt so odd. I was glad to be sharing a car after the delivery was made.

Friday we made many preparations for a variety of things. In the morning we helped a woman prepare her home for the off chance Irma made a turn west. We battened down the hatches and cleaned up the yard, removing possible flying projectiles.
The evening we set up for Zone Conference taking place in the morning. We were short on tables and other supplies but we managed to make it work. At 8:30 the mission president called and told us he was combining our zone conferences so they could better prepare for the possibility of storms this week. We had just finished setting up and had already stretched our resources thin. We made it happen. It took some ingenuity and some figuring but we made it work. We finished at 9:30 and swung by the president's hotel to pick some things up at 9:40.

Saturday was the day of the multi-zone super conference. Everything was a huge success. After we finally got the caterer to double our lunch order to feed the total of 60 people it was all down hill. President Smith gave us great council and guidance as we Press Forward in the FTM! It was fun to be with such a large group of great missionaries. There were a lot of things that needed to be taken care of but all went off without a hitch!

Sunday was a very restful day after a week of stresses. We held an urgent mission-wide conference call to talk about our plan of action once it was known that Irma was coming for Tallahassee. Plans were made and put into effect. Everyone is safe and sound. Church was great. The ward was very concerned about what could be done to help the people of Texas and Florida.
After church we had a few meal appointments to attend and then enjoyed the Elder David A. Bednar Devotional to Young Adults. It was great. Elder Bednar spoke about the chains that link our families together over the generations and we need to do all we can to be strong links in the chain. Our decisions today have profound effects on our children and our children's children. A choice today can affect hundreds if not thousands of our very own posterity. (https://www.lds.org/broadcasts/watch/worldwide-devotional-sep/2017/09?cid=HP_SA_10-9-2017_dSI_fBCAST_xLIDyL1-B_&lang=eng) I reccomend watching!

This was a stressful week. But has been a lot of fun!  Many ups and downs and uncertainty. One thing I know for certain, God loves us. He is always with us. He is watching over us and protecting us, supporting us one moment to the next. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and He has overcome the world. He can and will help us.

Have a great week yall! I love you and be safe during these crazy times! Thank you for all the Love, support and prayers!

Love, Elder Graham

FSU 9/4/17

So this week has been pretty adventurous. We had a pretty chill P-day last week.

Monday- Email, Shopping, then played Apples to Apples with the sisters. Pretty chill day.

Tuesday- We drove to Mobile to give them supplies and for District meeting. We then drove back and just did our missionary work in our area! Finally! Sometimes I feel like Im NEVER in my own area! haha

Wednesday- Brother Spencer took my companion and I out to a super good BBQ place in the Hood of Mobile. It was soooo good! We also had some nasty storms come through because of Hurricane Harvey. So we were under Tornado watch for a while. We then has some lessons that we went to for the rest of the day.

Thursday- We got up and cleaned out our mini Van. We then went and filled our tires up with air and grabbed a bite to eat. After eating and filling up our car with gas we hit the road for our LONG drive to Tallahassee. Solid 4 1/2 hour drive. It kinda got scary on the way there because we had some pretty bad storms. Everyone was going like 30 in a 70 because the rain was so bad. We stopped on our way and I get to see the senior couple in my old area. They were soooo happy to see me! I love them they are just so nice! We finally arrived in Tallahassee that night. We went to some good eating places that night. Then we went to the Church Building where everyone was playing volleyball! We had like 8 missionaries there and a bunch of college kids! It was fun!

Friday- We woke up got ready and then we went to TCC. Tallahassee community College. The reason why we are in Tallahassee was for us to go on exchanges with the Assistants to the President. Which was really fun. So they are campus missionaries at TCC. We just got out of the car walked into the campus and just started talking to everyone! It was sooo different from just normal missionary work. We just turn and talk , turn and talk, and turn and talk. lol It was really cool because the first person we talked to wasnt interested but we asked him if he knew anyone and he said he instantly just thought of his friend. So we gave him our info and hopefully we get a call from him. The next person we talked to we were able to teach them the entire restoration and invited her to church. It was really cool because she had some great questions and was able to understand it really well. Later we went to go switch out our car. We got a chevy malibu. Its really nice! We then had some meetings about some training we will be giving to our zone. The AP's went over some things for us to talk about. Later that night we went to FSU campus to take some pictures. That was pretty fun.

Saturday- We drove a long ways back to Alabama. When we got back we had to go straight to volleyball night. It was really fun! We then went home and hit the sack! We were soooooo tired!

Sunday- We had a great Fast and Testimony meeting! We had two investigators at church. A mother and her 16 year old son. The 16 year old got up and bore his testimony!! The Entire spirit of the testimony meeting changed!! It was amazing! Everyone just loved them! The mother had some great experiences at church! She said she really felt the spirit here! It was sooo awesome! We then had an opportunity to teach Gospel Principles class. We taught on tithing and offerings. It was really good we had 3 investigators there. Than after church we hung out with our bishop and just talked and had some good conversations! He is super cool HE reminds me a lot of my Older brother Brian.
Today- Did service for an older couple moving furniture around and up a hill. Now im emailing. hahha
